Get plugged in and join our ministry by volunteering!
Volunteering is a great way to participate in our ministry and see the Faith Formation Program in action, to socialize with staff, students, and other parents, and to build a Catholic, Christian community. Any amount of volunteer time is appreciated whether it is given one time or on a regular basis.
Faith Formation Stewardship has four main areas:
Catechist or Small Group Leader
Hall Monitor or Aft/Eve Assistant
Help with Events
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Invitation - If you are interested in learning more about becoming involved with CGS, our PreK-6th grade program, please contact Danell Rudquist.
Other: Let us know of any other areas or talents you would like to share with us.
Please send an email to volunteer with the area you are interested in. Once we hear from you, we will be in contact with specific instructions on how to complete the requirements for volunteering.
All volunteers 18 years of age or older that have contact with minors must fulfill these essential components: Background Check, VIRTUS Training, Mandatory Reporting Video, Code of Conduct Video and agreement. These must be completed online through virtusonline.org.
Virtus On-line Guides:
Virtus Training Sessions: There are two local sessions scheduled in the Fall for all volunteers of St. Michael’s, St Mary’s and SCCS). Date TBD. Both sessions will be held in St. Michael’s Social Hall.
Please note: If you are volunteering with us prior to these sessions, additional training can be found at Virtus Online in order to find a session that meets prior to your assisting in our program.
Both of these sessions will last approximately 3 hours, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. You will only have to attend one. It is important that you arrive on time for this training.
This training is important for two reasons: it is the right thing to do to heighten awareness of the need to provide children, youth and vulnerable adults with safe environments, especially within the church, and because the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is mandating that each diocese provide such programs. This is one of three compliance steps all volunteers must complete. Any volunteer who does not attend a Virtus session, sign a Code of Conduct form, and agree to a background check will not be able to volunteer with children in any school, faith formation, or parish program.
Attendance is required for all Faith Formation volunteers — use St. Michael’s as your primary location when registering (If you volunteer at St. Mary's or other locations they can be added as additional locations.). NOTE: If you have attended a Virtus Training session in previous years you do not have to attend another one. There is a refresher video training to view depending on when you received the live training.
We welcome parents, grandparents and guardians as part of our volunteer team. Please come and join us, we look forward to meeting you and getting to know you.
If you are a minor ages 15-17 and volunteering, you must complete the Code of Conduct for Minor Volunteers and provide two references.
