First Confession / First Communion

“Let the children come to me, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”

Dearest Families,

It is with joyful anticipation that I send good news regarding the celebrations of First Holy Communion!  With so many matters to consider during this reality that we live, we finally have arranged the dates for First Communions beginning Monday, June 15 which is very apropos as this follows the significant feast of Corpus Christi Sunday. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we prepare for such a gift!

Fr. Izen has carefully crafted the schedule so that each family can have a small personal setting allowing for family and guests to rejoice and experience your child’s reception of the most Holy Eucharist amidst this time of social distancing! It will surely be a beautiful one. There are many Masses to choose from. Below are the details:

  • The Church of St. Michael will have twenty Masses beginning Monday, June 15 – July 10th (Monday through Friday) for First Communions at the 5:30 PM daily Mass.
  • The Church of St. Mary will have three Mass Options at the 7:30 AM daily Mass.
    • Tuesday, June 16
    • Thursday, June 18
    • Wednesday June 24
We will be allowing four First Communicants and their families at each Mass with two reserved pews for EACH family and/ or guests at the front of the church.  Please see the attachment for social distancing guidelines.

Since rehearsals will not be necessary because of the small intimate group and setting, please read the First Holy Communion Procedures carefully.

Here is the link regarding the safety protocols set forth by the archdiocese for your viewing. [watch our Returning to Mass video]

Included below is the sign up to select a date and location that will work for your family.  If you have any questions, please direct them to Danell Rudquist,

Faith Formation is responsible for the sacramental programs of Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion) for the parishes of St. Michael’s and St. Mary’s.  The sacramental year for these two sacraments is second grade.  Faith Formation and St. Croix Catholic School, along with students in home school programs that wish to participate, form these sacramental programs.  Classes and preparation for students in older grades is also available.  Please call 651-351-3175, ext. 2 and speak to Karen Sisson for sacramental preparation of students grades 3-6, or if you are the parent of a second grader that is in a home school program.

Note: Students making their sacraments (with the exception of SCCS students) enroll in one of the regular Faith Formation sessions Register. If you are already enrolled, do not enroll again. Through your registration, your child is included in our sacramental preparation database.  St. Croix Catholic School is automatically added to the sacramental program database from a list we receive from the school and do not register through this site.

First Reconciliation (Confession):

When the perfect union with God and the Church has been ruptured by an act of sin, a Catholic Christian is to be reconciled with God and the community through the sacrament of reconciliation. The early Church referred to this sacrament as a mini-baptism because it returns a person to full union with the Church.
