Preparing for the sacraments is an exciting time for the entire family. We are happy to be in partnership with you! Your involvement in the preparation of your child to receive First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is very important. Parents are the child’s primary teachers of the Catholic faith and initiation of the child into the sacramental life of the Church. The Eucharist is the greatest gift we have received from Jesus - the gift of himself.
Catechesis for reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist requires at least two years of religious education. The Church of St. Michael and the Church of Saint Mary will follow this two-year sacramental preparation model beginning the first grade year. (Children beyond the first grade will be grandfathered in.)
Faith Formation serves children receiving these sacraments in the following groups:
Homeschool Families: Homeschool children may attend weekly CGS sessions or parents may choose to provide religious education at home. Please call the Faith Formation office at 651-351-3175 if your child is in their sacramental preparation years and will receive sacramental preparation through a homeschool program so we can get you on the list for parent meetings, retreats and receipt of the sacraments.
Public School Families: We offer several CGS sessions throughout the week for children ages 3-12. Sacramental preparation is within these Catechesis of the Good Shepherd sessions.
St. Croix Catholic School: Students enrolled at SCCS will participate in the parent meetings, retreats and receipt of the sacraments along with homeschool and Faith Formation families. The school will provide the Faith Formation office with your information so that you receive all correspondence related to the sacramental program.
