Programs for Pre-K: 3 & 4 yrs of age
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd:
This religious formation program was developed to nurture the child’s relationship with God and is inspired by the Montessori Method. The “atrium” is a beautiful environment especially prepared for children and contains various articles of liturgy (Mass, Baptism, Sacraments, Prayer) and scripture materials (Good Shepherd, True Vine, Moral Parables, Infancy Narratives, Prayer). Children have the opportunity to ponder scripture passages or liturgical prayers while interacting with the materials. All classes will be held in the John and Mary Building. Classes will generally meet three times a month from September through May with some exceptions. There are five options to choose from.
“When I was first introduced to the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, I was immediately drawn to it as a way to bring my children to knowledge of and love for Christ and the Church. We parents are the first and primary catechists of our children, and the beauty of both the method and the tangible materials stood out to me as a most fitting way to fulfill this role. This remains the primary reason that I have taken the training and I experience the benefits of it every day. Being able to assist the Faith Formation program is an added blessing and I am so happy to be part of this great work. However, there is another element of taking the training that I was not expecting; that is how I have grown in my own personal relationship with Jesus.
Coming to know Jesus as the Good Shepherd is new for me. It has inspired, or allowed, a relationship with Him that I have not experienced before and I am so grateful for this. This has shaped my prayer life, and the way I approach catechizing my children among other things. I would recommend this training to anyone- especially those with young children, those new to the Catholic Church, those seeking healing…Truly for anyone. I am so blessed to have come to find the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.” —Annie Berthiume, Level I Catechist
